Family Enrichment Program

The Family Enrichment Program of the Massachusetts Military Heroes Fund offers up to $1,000/year to eligible member households to be used for services and programs which can enrich the quality of life for post 9/11 bereaved military families.  Costs eligible for reimbursement under this program are uninsured mental health counseling fees (with a licensed provider), life coaching services, career counseling fees, educational classes, tutoring, childcare expenses, camps and vocational training.  Other services, programs and expenses will be considered on a case by case basis.

Eligibility. You may be eligible for assistance through this program if:

You are a family member of a military service member from Massachusetts who died on, or as a result of, post 9/11/2001 military operations. For the purposes of this program, eligible family members are those related to the fallen service member as a spouse, domestic partner, child, parent or sibling.  Other family members may be considered if they have been appointed guardians for dependents of the deceased service member;

  • You have experienced financial hardship as a result of the death of your family service member;
  • Your present financial resources would not cover the cost of the expenses being requested under this program; and
  • The expenses you are requesting to be covered under this program are not eligible for reimbursement from any other resource, including health insurance.

Important Notes:  Funding for this program is limited and priority will be given to families seeking grants for mental health counseling, educational or vocational services.  Assistance will be awarded based on the urgency of the presenting need and on the availability of funds.  Massachusetts Military Heroes Fund reserves the right to determine if the expenses being requested for reimbursement under this program are appropriate.  Grant awards are limited to a maximum allowance per household of $1,000 in a consecutive twelve-month period.  Grant awards are reimbursements for expenses paid.  Receipts for these expenses must be included with applications.  In some limited cases, Massachusetts Military Heroes Fund will arrange to pay all or a portion of these expenses directly to a vendor.

If you are a Massachusetts family member of a fallen military service member who does not meet the above guidelines, please call us for assistance regardless and we will do our best to match your needs with other community resources.
